What is a BLN?

Promoting the Employment of People with Disabilities

The Business Leadership Network was formed to help employers improve their business practices and results to better include people with disabilities - our most readily available source of talented, motivated prospective employees, and a huge source of potential new customers.

HISTORY

The BLN was established as a national initiative of the President's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities in 1994. The program hinges on a fundamental premise that success breeds success, and that when employers get together to discuss the benefits to their organizations of hiring job candidates with disabilities, other employers are inspired to do the same. Over 40 BLN's now exist throughout America - visit www.USBLN.com for more information on the national network.

HOW IT WORKS

Business and community leaders are invited to join our local network. In partnership with government, community organizations, educators and the disability community, BLN staff work with individual employers to develop a local BLN Steering Committee to help guide BLN development activities. Training, technical support and other resources are then provided to help encourage improved hiring results and outreach within the disability community.

The BLN aim is to provide low-cost, high impact activities and services which:

  • Promote best practices relating to employment and people with disabilities
  • Provide networking and professional development opportunities for employers who want to have better access to the disability community
  • Build effective connections between employers and community partners
  • Improve the response time in delivering qualified job candidates to employers
  • Access quality, career-oriented employment opportunities for job seekers
  • Encourage creative, aggressive employer disability recruitment outreach efforts

We invite you to join our BLN
